Second round in Argentina should be tense and fierce, says expert

The second round of presidential elections in Argentina is expected to be “tense and possibly very competitive.”

This is the assessment of internationalist and founder of the Global Attitude Institute Rodrigo Reis.

A CNN Radio he drew attention to the “surprising result” that saw government candidate Sergio Massa in the lead against the ultra-rightist Javier Milei, who was the favorite.

“Strategies will have to be readapted, and the second round will remind us of the election we had in the past here in Brazil, with very close voting”, he added.

For Rodrigo, Massa should have an “unexpected gain of oxygen” with the advantage achieved, but he should “rearticulate the party’s support and base” in order to “gain strength for a possible victory.”

On the other hand, the expert believes that Milei will need to be self-critical: “He and his base believed they could win in the first round and there was a cold shower in that regard.”

Therefore, Milei and his team “will discuss a new strategy.”

An important point, according to Rodrigo Reis, will be the support of third place in the election, Patricia Bullrich.

“She is anti-Peronist and, therefore, would lean toward Javier Milei, but this has not yet been officially defined and will depend on articulation,” he stated.

The second round of elections in Argentina will take place on November 19.
