On June 20 and 21, 2022, Naval Group organized the second event of “R&D Partners Day” in Athens, with the aim of developing cooperation between the Naval Group and its Greek partners through R&D initiatives as well as European projects.
The Naval Group is an important industrial partner of the Greek Navy and further develops R&D partnerships with Greek industry, as well as academic and research institutes, to support the development of the future naval capabilities of the Greek Navy.
The second R&D Partners Days reaffirms the importance for the Naval Group to identify, structure and strengthen partnerships with Greek partners in cutting-edge technologies in various fields, such as unmanned vehicles (UxV), artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, energy storage and production, augmented reality, I-maintenance and eco-conception.
Collaborations with Greek academic partners
Naval Group has signed collaborations with three leading Greek universities: the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Patras and the Forth Research Center. These collaborations led to fruitful academic exchanges of know-how between the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and ENSTA Brittany for the development of works in composite material.
Collaboration in European projects
Since the first R&D Partners Days in June 2021, Naval Group and its partners have responded to many European invitations, such as the Modular Multirole Patrol Corvette program to which six Greek companies have responded: Terra Spatium, IDE, ISD, FEAC Engineering, Prisma Electronics and Hydrus.
Two Horizon Europe projects were also submitted for composite materials: Ithaca and Joining MAMA, for which the Group has collaborated with the University of Patras and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Some Greek partners shared their experience with ongoing successful European programs such as USSPS (Unmanned Semi-Fixed Maritime Surveillance Platforms), MIRICLE (Mine Risk Clearance for Europe) and PANDORA. Particular emphasis has also been placed on cyberspace, which is an important area of cooperation for the Naval Group.
GDAEE (Directorate-General for Defense Investments and Equipment) also presented its innovation policy. Exchanges followed for future collaborations in innovative sectors, thanks to the support and coordination of SEKPY (Hellenic Aerospace Security & Defense Industries Group) and HASDIG (Hellenic Aerospace Security & Defense Industries Group).
