A school bus carrying 26 students overturned into a river in the municipality of Aurora, in the Itajaí Valley region of Santa Catarina. The accident occurred on Friday afternoon (12). All passengers were removed from the vehicle and two children were injured.
According to the Fire Department, the bus was traveling on Estrada Municipal Ribeirão Areias when it crashed. A boy was rescued with suspected traumatic brain injury (TBI) and a girl with a light cut on her head. Other children presented hypothermia.
The victims were taken to the Rio do Sul Regional Hospital and to health units in Aurora. According to firefighters, they are well and stable.
According to the school’s management, a total of 26 passengers, between 6 and 18 years old, in addition to the driver, were in the vehicle.
The Fire Department deployed five vehicles to respond, including two trucks, two ambulances and a 4×4 search and rescue vehicle.
In contact with CNN the Civil Police stated that a procedure will be opened to investigate the case.
