Scenes of chaos and panic unfolded at subway of London as the carriage filled with smoke with panicked passengers breaking out through the windows. According to the testimonies of passengers, a strong smell of smoke and burning began to be smelled, while shortly after the doors of the train were sealed and trapped inside it.
The train came to a halt at Clapham Common station just before 8pm (GMT) when passengers were seen smashing the train’s windows to get out.
A spokesperson confirmed that the alert was activated for fire, but it was clarified that it was – probably – a problem with the train’s ventilation fan.
The fire department was called to the scene, with the firefighters finding no flames anywhere. “We are investigating the incident” was noted by the management company.

No injuries were reported during the incident, while the company apologized for the confusion caused.
“We were all trapped inside the subway, with the doors closed. We could hear people on the other side screaming and banging on the doors to get out of the wires,” said a passenger.
“We had no idea what was going on. People on the platform and inside the subway were breaking windows to get out. Now I understand that it was because the trains were filled with smoke».
Stuck on the train at Clapham Common and carriages filling with smoke, doors won’t open if it wasn’t for workmen on the platform we wouldn’t have got out! @TfL you should be ashamed! The response from station staff was horrible! @SkyNews @BBCNews @itvnews pic.twitter.com/D0MHItF0R3
