SC has 20 municipalities with rainfall, 614 homeless and 117 homeless

Santa Catarina records 20 municipalities with incidents related to rain until this Sunday (19). Civil Defense reported that as of this morning, 117 people were homeless and another 614 homeless.

According to the Meteorological Monitoring of the State Secretariat for Protection and Civil Defense, the rains that hit all regions of Santa Catarina occurred with greater intensity in the mid-west, southern plateau and sections of the Upper and Middle Vale do Itajaí, in addition to the coast south and Greater Florianópolis.

In the last 48 hours, the highest accumulations were 233.3 millimeters in Vidal Ramos, 217.9 millimeters in Rio do Sul, 213.7 millimeters in Lontras and 197.1 millimeters in Botuverá.

The tendency is that by the end of this Sunday the rain will decrease and the week will start with stable weather.

In the city of Rio do Sul alone, five shelters were opened. The state government stated that there is information about overflow in the neighborhoods of Barra do Trombudo, Taboão, Valada São Paulo, Ribeirão do Tigre and Ribeirão Matador.

In Blumenau and Brusque, incidents of falling trees and flooding were recorded on several streets. There were also barriers falling in Botuverá and Apiúna, where a residence had to be evacuated and there were no injuries.

According to the Fire Department, in Greater Florianópolis, some tree falls were recorded, with no victims.

South river

The rains that hit the city of Rio do Sul caused flooding and left around 460 people homeless in the municipality. In 24 hours, the region recorded 154 millimeters of rain.

“It was identified that in Rio do Sul we would have the river level above 8.5 meters, possibly close to 9 meters and with that a significant part of the population affected, they had already opened five shelters and we needed to increase the level of mobilization '' stated Colonel Laureano, director of Civil Defense Disaster Management.

According to the Santa Catarina government, the level of the Itajaí-Açu River reached 9.06 meters in the last 8 hours and it rained 217 millimeters in the last 48 hours. As a result of the situation, Rio do Sul City Hall must declare an emergency since Saturday (18).

According to Rio do Sul City Hall, the river's peak occurred this Sunday, around 7:40 am, at 8.97 meters. The volume of rain accumulated since Friday (17) was 175.6 millimeters.

Weather forecast

The cold front begins to move away from this Sunday towards Paraná and the ocean, with the rains losing intensity. The sky remains closed, but, on Monday (20), the forecast is for sun and firm weather in all regions of Santa Catarina.

“We are gradually starting to provide services until normality returns. There are situations that cause concern and there is still a lot of water coming down from the Valley. In Taió, Rio do Oeste, Laurentino, the river level is still rising”, said Fabiano de Souza, Secretary of State for Civil Protection and Defense.

“Some municipalities are currently in emergency, that is, the channel has already overflowed from the natural riverbed. So people still need to remain vigilant”, added the secretary.
