Saúde returns questioning from Anvisa about booster dose, but does not clarify about Janssen

In response to inquiries from Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) about the new cycle of immunization in the country, using booster doses for adults over 18 years of age, the Ministry of Health states that “the scientific updates presented reinforce the capacity of different vaccines against Covid-19 to produce immunological memory, as well as to amplify the immune response with a booster dose to the initial vaccination schedule of the population over 18 years old”.

However, although it makes reference to different types of immunizers, the text only brings brief reports on the application of only two immunizers: Coronavac and AstraZeneca, without mentioning Janssen, for example, the target of questioning by the regulatory agency.

When concluding the explanations, the Department of Confronting Covid-19 justifies the reinforcement for the “trend of reduction in the effectiveness of vaccines against Covid over time”. The folder supports an announcement made earlier, to allow, as of this Wednesday, booster doses of vaccines from AstraZeneca, Coronavac or Pfizer, after five months, preferably using immunizers from Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Janssen, regardless of the vaccine previously applied.

Anvisa sources consider the answer innocuous and inform that they will insist on a clearer feedback on the technical basis of Health to define the time criteria and the need for the booster dose and third application of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
