São Paulo will host the first Brazilian edition of the Primavera Sound festival

One of the biggest music festivals in Europe will land in Brazil. Primavera Sound announced its first edition in São Paulo to take place between October 31st and November 6th of next year.

Throughout this week, the festival, which has been taking place for 20 years in Barcelona, should offer attractions in various locations in the capital of São Paulo. The days with the main shows will be concentrated at Anhembi, in the north of São Paulo.

The artist line-up and information on ticket sales and value are expected to be announced shortly. “This new international adventure, which joins the editions of Barcelona, Porto, Los Angeles, Santiago and Buenos Aires, will ensure the artistic personality that Primavera Sound has been building since 2001,” stated the announcement.

By way of comparison, the Barcelona edition scheduled for next year features artists such as Dua Lipa, Gorillaz, The Strokes, Tame Impala, Beck and others as headliners. The first edition of Los Angeles, which takes place in September 2022, will have Arctic Monkeys, Lorde and Nine Inch Nails as main attractions.

One of the organizers’ proposals for the Brazilian edition is to occupy the entire 400,000 square meters of the Anhembi District, in the same way that the headquarters usually occupy the Catalan park “Parc del Fòrum” annually.

“The fact that the Anhembi District is so reminiscent of the Parc del Fòrum makes it even more special, because it’s like being at home. It’s a place where music can be breathed everywhere: there’s the Sambódromo, there’s the auditorium where all the great names in Brazilian music have already performed. Everything fits,” said music curator and director of the Primavera Sound franchise, Gabi Ruiz.

The Primavera Sound producers will work together with the Brazilian producer Live Nation and in partnership with the German beer Beck’s to carry out the Brazilian edition.

The expansion of the event to South America is part of the “New Primavera Sound Destination” initiative – which in recent days announced the first editions in Argentina and Chile, also scheduled for 2022.

“We are extremely honored to be partnering with Primavera Sound. It’s extraordinary to be able to make possible in São Paulo a festival ahead of its time, which has always pointed to the future, with pillars rooted in the most inspiring musical curatorship in the world, sustainability, diversity and urbanity”, said Alexandre Faria, vice president of Live Nation Brazil.
