There isn't even half a chance that Roberto Bolle will show up on the stage of the Ariston Theater for the final of the Sanremo Festival in sneakers, but Fiorello didn't hold back from this edition's catchphrase (linked to John Travolta and the now infamous Qua Qua Dance).
The 48-year-old Piedmontese etoile expresses all the joy of being hosted at the most followed singing event in Italy: «(I tried) A great emotion. When he called me Amadeus I said yes, immediately; I was very happy, even though this week I had the most important show of my artistic season, since yesterday I was at the Royal Opera House in London.”
Disciplined in dance, despite the upheavals of family life (his twin Maurizio died of a heart attack at 36), Bolle remains one of the most reserved artists – bordering on hermeticism – on the world scene. Several times there have been attempts to incur into his private life, but he has never confirmed or denied it.
He wants the public to come to know him for the artistic performances on stage and certainly not for his relationships. And, for the 20th anniversary of Vanity Fair, he recalled on Instagram the 2009 cover where on the cover he asked himself why it wasn't enough for viewers to see him dance but why they wanted to snoop around the most intimate aspects of his private life at all costs. Let's say it clearly: he is and will remain an artist who embodies absolute perfection in dance. At a certain point Vogue asked Burberry's new creative director, Daniel Lee, what his typical days are like (considering that since 2020 he has often been paparazzi with the dancer). The answer is what one would have expected: «I go to the ballet with my partner». And yes, she mentioned the star's name and surname. But since it is not right to force anyone to expose themselves more than they wish, Bolle has never commented on the relationship. Furthermore, being a public figure does not give unconditional access to the private and does not authorize the public to investigate and scrutinize personal choices.
What we expect from Roberto Bolle on the Ariston stage, tiredness aside, it is the innate grace with which he managed and still manages in his career to transport elsewhere, in a new dimension, almost magical and totally ethereal. She has a great responsibility: to enter en pointe on a stage where even a pair of sneakers sparks endless controversy.
