Samsung suddenly updates old smartphones. One of them from 2014

In early August, Samsung unexpectedly released a firmware update for its 7-year-old Galaxy J7 smartphone. Now the company surprises again: it suddenly sent out an update for 9 old devices at once, one of which (Galaxy Alpha) is already 8 years old. This is reported by XDA-Developers.

In most cases, all smartphones, like the Galaxy J7 weeks earlier, received “GPS stability improvements” – apparently, the problem was critical, since Samsung decided to update gadgets that were no longer supported for a long time. However, the list of changes for the Galaxy Alpha is different, in addition to improving the GPS, it also has “security improvements” (what exactly is unknown). Below are the models and numbers of fresh firmware.

  • Galaxy Alpha (SM-G850F) – G850FXXU2CVH9.
  • Galaxy S5 Neo (SM-G903F) – G903FXXU2BVG3.
  • Galaxy S6 (SM-G920I / SM-G920K / SM-G920T) – G920IDVU4FVG1 / G920KKKU3EVG1 / G920TUVU6FVH1.
  • Galaxy S6 Edge (SM-G925I / SM-G925K / SM-G925T) – G925IDVU4FVG1 / G925KKKU3EVG1 / G925TUVU6FVG1.
  • Galaxy S7 (SM-G930K) – G930KKKU3EVG2.
  • Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935K) – G935KKKU3EVG2.
  • Galaxy S8 (SM-G950F) – G950FXXUCDVG4.
  • Galaxy S8 Plus (SM-G955F) – G955FXXUCDVG4.
  • Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950F) – N950FXXUGDVG5.

It is noteworthy that Samsung has released a similar update N960FXXU9FVH1 for the Galaxy Note 9 (SM-N960F) – this smartphone is still supported by the company and receives quarterly updates.
