The governor of Russia’s Belgorod border area, Vyacheslav Gladkov, declared a state of emergency across the region on Wednesday (14), citing continued attacks by Ukrainian forces.
“The situation in the Belgorod region remains extremely difficult and tense,” Gladkov said in a video published on the Telegram messaging app.
He added that daily shelling by the Ukrainian military has destroyed homes, killing and injuring civilians.
“Therefore, we are taking the decision, effective today, to declare a regional emergency situation throughout the Belgorod region, with a subsequent appeal to the government to declare a federal emergency situation.”
