Russia performed the most deadly attack against the capital of Ukraine in nine months on Thursday morning, hours after US President Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of damaging peace negotiations.
Moscow launched 70 missiles and 145 drones, mainly aimed at Kiev, the Ukrainian Air Force said.
At least 12 people died in bombing and 90 were injured, according to emergency services. The attack hit 13 locations in Kiev, including residential buildings and civil infrastructure.
So this was more deadly attack to the capital since July 2024 when 33 people were killed in an air bombing that targeted a hospital and residential neighborhoods.
More people are likely to be trapped under the rubble. A search and rescue operation is underway to find them, according to local and national authorities.
Attacks against Ukraine
The Russian Ministry of Defense said it had performed “a massive attack with high precision and long -range air weapons, land and sea arms, unmanned aerial vehicles against companies in the aviation, missiles and space, mechanical engineering and armored industries in Ukraine, as well as fuel production for rockets and gunfire”.
“The objectives of the attack were achieved. All targets were hit,” Moscow commented.
After the attacks on Kiev, Zelensky announced that he was shortening a visit to South Africa, where he landed on Wednesday night (24).
“It is extremely important that everyone around the world see and understand what is really happening,” he said, adding that Ukraine would immediately come into contact with international partners regarding her requests for strengthening air defenses.
“It has been 44 days since Ukraine agreed with a total ceasefire and the suspension of attacks. This was a proposal from the United States. And 44 days have passed with Russia continuing to kill our people and avoiding severe pressures and accountability for their actions,” added Zelensky on social networks.

Producers of CNN In Kiev they heard air strike sirens echoing around the city for about six hours in the early hours of Thursday.
A producer of CNN He commented that they waited in a corridor with their son for six hours as missiles fell over the city, with a drone flying with a loud sound outside his window.
Images provided by emergency services showed burning buildings in some of the locations affected by the attacks.
Rescue engineers, teams and dogs are looking for people who believe themselves are trapped under the rubble of a house destroyed by the attacks in the Sviatoshyn district, Ukraine Minister Ihor Klymenko reported.
“There is information about two children who have not been found yet,” he said, adding that the situation was “tragic.”
The mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko, previously asked for people to take shelter. Since then, the military administration of the city of Kiev has issued a statement stating that everything is clean.
“Rescue teams are doing everything possible to remove the rubble as soon as possible,” the mayor said on Telegram. “At the moment we are removing the rubble manually, without using any equipment, as there may still be people under the rubble.”
At least 42 people were taken to hospital, including six children, according to Ukraine emergency services.

Ukraine’s interior minister Ihor Klymenko pointed out that eight regions of the country were targets of what he called “a massive combined attack”, which also hit Zhytomyr, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Pochava, Khmelnytsky, Sumy and Zaporizehzia.
Five ballistic missiles were among those who managed to cross the Ukrainian defenses, according to the Air Force.
Peace Agreement negotiation
Russian attacks occurred after US President Donald Trump and Zelensky were involved in a new public dispute, specifically about the future of Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula illegally attached by Russia in 2014.
As part of the mission of sealing a peace agreement to end the three -year war, the US government proposed to recognize Russian control of Crimea, reported authorities familiar with details to CNN .
Such a measure would revert a decade of American politics and could disturb the widely widespread consensus after World War II that international borders should not be forcibly altered.
Zelensky repeatedly stated that Ukraine would not accept this, stating that it would be contrary to the country’s constitution.
On Wednesday (23), the Republican said that the position of the Ukrainian President was “very harmful to peace negotiations with Russia.”
“These are inflamed statements like Zelensky’s that make it so difficult to resolve this war. He has nothing to brag about!” Trump published on his social truth platform.
Donald Trump’s comments were made hours after Vice President JD Vance threatens to abandon negotiations, telling reporters during a visit to India that a “very explicit proposal” had been presented to Russia and Ukraine and that it was “time for them to say” yes’ or the US retreating. “

Previously, ministerial negotiations between Ukraine, USA, United Kingdom, France and Germany, aiming to deepen the work towards a ceasefire, were relegated to occur among lower level authorities after the withdrawal of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“Emotions are on the skin today,” said Zelensky on Wednesday (23), while the events of the day launched new uncertainties about diplomatic efforts to end the war.
Trump government envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff is expected to visit Moscow on Friday (26) for discussions with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
