Russian media: At least 6 dead in attack by Ukrainian armed forces in Nova Kahovka

LAST UPDATE: 09.13

At least six people were killed and dozens injured in an attack by Ukrainian armed forces on Monday in the Russian-controlled community of Nova Kahovka in the Kherson region, Russian state news agency TASS reported.

“There are six people who have been confirmed dead. Several dozen others have been injured, they have shrapnel wounds, abrasions,” Vladimir Leondiev, head of the Russian-adjacent civil-military administration of the Kherson region, told the agency.

“There are still many people trapped under the debris. The injured are being taken to hospitals, but many are trapped in their apartments and homes,” added Mr. Leondiev.

The attack caused an explosion in fertilizer warehouses, in addition to hitting buildings, he said.

The Reuters news agency points out that it is unable to independently verify this information.

Since Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, the two sides have frequently accused each other of targeting civilians.

Serhii Brachuk, a representative of the Odesa regional authorities, said via Telegram that Nova Kahovka is now “minus” an ammunition depot.
