Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrives in Turkey on June 8

Russian Foreign Minister to be in Turkey on June 8 with a military delegation Sergei Lavrov, to discuss the creation of maritime corridors for Ukrainian agricultural exports, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu said today.

“Lavrov will arrive in Turkey on June 8 together with a military delegation to discuss, among other things, the creation of safe corridors for the transportation of grain. “This is the most important issue,” said the Turkish Foreign Minister, who is seeking to “establish a corridor surveillance center in Istanbul”, speaking to the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

In yesterday’s telephone conversation with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Vladimir Putin’s Russian counterpart has said that Russia is ready to facilitate the smooth export of grain from Ukrainian ports in coordination with Turkey. According to Putin, “the Russian side is ready to facilitate the smooth passage of goods, in coordination with the Turkish partners. “This also applies to the export of grain from Ukrainian ports.”

Speaking to Turkish news agency Anadolu, Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu said that in cooperation with the United Nations an agreement is reached on the establishment of a maritime corridor in the Black Sea, but differences between Moscow and Kyiv remain. He added that the UN has proposed the establishment of a joint maritime corridor monitoring mechanism and that Turkey is open to the idea.

Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu added that Moscow is calling for the lifting of some Western sanctions on the insurance sector, as they will hit ships participating in the planned naval network, while Ukraine does not want Russian warships to approach the port of Odessa.
