THE Russia accused Ukraine of using drones “kamikaze” to attack one nuclear power plant of Zaporizhia, with the Ukrainian side so far not having made any official comment.
Specifically, Mr Vladimir Rogov, who is part of the Russian command, wrote on Telegram that three Ukrainian “kamikaze” drones hit the station. Speaking to Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency, he said the reactor section of the station was not damaged.
The Reuters agency, which relayed the news, noted that it has not verified the Russian claims about the station being located near territory occupied by the Russian military.
Also, the state-owned Ukrainian nuclear power company Energoatomwhose employees continue to operate the plant even though the area is under Russian control, issued a statement later accusing Russian forces of requesting access to the turbine generator areas of the three reactors to store equipment and tanks there.
Energoatom claims, without providing evidence, that Russian forces are doing this because they fear “gifts” from the Ukrainian armed forces, i.e. the targeted strikes. The company had no comment on the alleged drone attack.
Attacks on nuclear power plants
It is noted that since the war broke out in Ukraine on February 24, one of the biggest problems that arose was the control of nuclear plants occupied by the Russian army. Thus, Russia agreed with Ukrainian and international authorities not to disturb or replace the personnel working at the respective stations that come under its control.
However, since then since the first days of the armed conflict, there have been attacks on nuclear power plants controlled by Russia in Ukraine, without the perpetrator being officially identified. In all cases Russia has officially accused Ukraine for the blows, with the Ukrainian side either not to acknowledge that the attacks took place, or to accuses the Russians of provocations.
Yes, for the specific issue and the West itself is troubled and has not taken a hard lineas it has not ascertained all the hits.
