Russia: Three dead after gas explosion in a building

Three people were killed, including an 11-year-old girl, after a gas explosion caused by a two-story building, which partially collapsed in one of its villages. Russia, announced the head of the Lipetsk region, Igor Artamonov.

Visual footage shows extensive damage to the building in Solindarnost, a village located 400 kilometers south of Moscow, and rescuers at the crash site trying to remove debris.

Six people were injured, as reported by the TASS news agency, citing Vassily Razmunov, the head of the local Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to the local section of the Russian Commission of Inquiry, a gas explosion in the central part of the building caused it to collapse.

Investigators say a criminal investigation has been launched into the building’s flawed security measures.

Gas explosions are relatively common in Russia due to outdated infrastructure and insufficient safety regulations regarding the use of natural gas. Earlier in the week, two people were killed in an explosion at a nine-storey apartment building.
