The Russian government said on Friday (18) that there was already progress in negotiations about a possible peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine, but that contacts with the United States were quite complicated.
“Contacts are quite complicated because, of course, the theme is not easy,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“Russia is committed to resolving this conflict, ensuring its own interests, and is open to dialogue. We continue to do so,” he added.
US President Donald Trump will give up trying to negotiate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine within a few days unless there are clear signs that an agreement can be reached, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported on Friday.
Asked if the United States could withdraw from the search for a peace agreement in Ukraine, Peskov said this was a matter for Washington.
“We believe we can already notice some progress,” said Peskov, citing a temporary moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure, although he said that Ukraine did not adhere to her.
“Therefore, certain advances have already been reached, but of course there are still many complex discussions ahead.”
Peskov, when asked if the energy moratorium was over, commented that a month had passed, but no order from the president had been received to change the position of Russia.
