Russia backs Maduro, demands US return ‘stolen’ plane, spokesman says

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday (3) that the Kremlin supports the “legitimate demands” of the government of Nicolás Maduro to the United States for Washington to return the “stolen” plane and added that the United States is acting like a “criminal boss”.

“We support our Bolivarian friends in their legitimate demands to return what was stolen from the Venezuelan state. We stand in solidarity with them in their determination to continue defending independence and sovereignty,” Zakharova concluded, according to statements collected by the state news agency TASS published this Thursday (5).

Earlier this week, the US seized a Maduro plane in the Dominican Republic and a second aircraft is under observation in the Central American country.

The seizure is part of a package of economic sanctions imposed by Washington on Venezuela, which classifies the restrictions as illegitimate.
