UK police formally accused the British comedian and actor Russell Brand 50, rape and other sexual crimes against four women between 1999 and 2005. He, however, has denied the allegations earlier.
Brand is Accused of rape, shamelessness, forced oral sex and sexual aggression said the Metropolitan Police of London in a statement on Friday (4).
The institution added that the actor will appear to the Westminster Magistrates Court in London early next month.
Police began investigating Brand in September 2023 after receiving charges arising from a joint investigation led by three British media vehicles: The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s “Dispatches” program.
It is claimed that a woman was raped in 1999 in Bournemouth, southern England; A woman was attacked indecently in the Westminster area in London in 2001; A woman was forced to oral sex and sexually assaulted in 2004, also in the Westminster area in London; And a woman was sexually assaulted between 2004 and 2005 in the Westminster area in London.
“Today, we have authorized the Metropolitan Police to accuse Russell Brand from various sexual crimes,” said Jaswant Narwal of the Crown Prosecutor Service (CPS), according to a CPS press release on Friday.
“We carefully analyze the evidence after a police investigation on allegations made after the transmission of a Channel documentary 4 in September 2023. We conclude that Russell Brand should be accused of crimes that include rape, sexual assault and shame -attacking.”
Russell Brand is a British actor and comedian. He gained fame by introducing UK Big Brother reality show spin-off, Big Brother’s Big Mouth, in 2004. A few years later, he played prominent roles in film in productions such as “Hangover of Love” (2008), “Um Pretending Happens” (2008) and “The Worst Work in the World” (2010).
He is currently married to Laura Brand, but was in a relationship with singer Katy Perry between 2010 and 2012.
