Rupert Finch, Kate Middleton’s ex-boyfriend (spoiler: it didn’t go like in The Crown)

The love between the prince William And Kate Middleton, as is known, blossomed in Scotland, at the University of St. Andrews. But, as the sixth season of the series The Crown recalls, Middleton was in college before getting together with William she was engaged to classmate Rupert Finch for almost a year (played on Netflix by actor Oli Green). Kate and Rupert met in 2001, the year in which Middleton enrolled in the History of Art faculty of the Scottish college. Rupert Finch had already been studying there for three years, was a member of the college cricket team and a very popular boy. The two remained tied until 2002. A few weeks after the breakup Kate, parading for charity in a transparent dress, she won over her future husband William, met a few months earlier. AND Rupert walked out of her life, even as a student: being older and having completed his studies at St. Andrews, the boy moved to Ampleforth College in Yorkshire, and finally went on to complete his law degree in Guildford (now Rupert, after 11 years lawyer of the British multinational Johnson Matthey, is general counsel for a technology engineering company).

Despite the farewell, the ex-boyfriends remained friends, so much so that Rupert was invited to William and Kate’s wedding in 2011 (William also invited a handful of exes to the royal wedding, including Arabella Musgrave, Jecca Craig, Olivia Hunt and Carly Massy-Birch). Two years later, the Princes of Wales participated in the Rupert’s marriage to the Marquess of Reading’s daughter, Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs, co-founder of ethical brand Beulah London. Rupert and Natasha, just like the princes of Wales, have three children: Georgia, Cienna and India Grace Albertine.

In addition to being friends with Kate and William, Rupert and Natasha are also close to Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank. The royal couple were present at Finch’s wedding in 2013, while Rupert and Natasha attended the royal wedding of Eugenie and Jack in 2018. Furthermore, according to reports from TatlerNatasha’s father, Simon, was a dear friend of King CharlesAnd Natasha knew both Prince William and Prince Harry as a child.
