Rumors already denied about alleged Lulinha farms go viral again

False: There is no evidence that former president and presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) or his children own farms, as the montage made up of three videos claims. The first two do not show oxen being shipped in southern Pará, but a herd of sheep. In addition, the property in Mato Grosso that appears in the third video was not purchased by PT and belongs to Agropecuária Grendene, a company linked to a business group in Rio Grande do Sul that operates in the footwear sector. The content has been previously denied by Comprova and Aos Fatos.

Together, they receive narration from a male voice stating that 40,000 oxen from a farm belonging to Lula’s son, in São Félix do Xingu (PA), are being shipped. The third shows men on a boat pointing to an area of land, which they claim is the Grendene Farm, in the city of Cáceres (MT), allegedly bought by Lula for R$90 million.

where it was published: Facebook and Kwai.

Completion of Proof: The statement made in the old video is false and which has recently re-circulated on social media that 40,000 oxen were being shipped from a farm that belongs to one of the sons of former President Lula, in São Félix do Xingu, in the south of Pará . The assertion that Fazenda Grendene belongs to the Lula family is equally false.

The content has already been denied by the check in 2021, demonstrating that the animals are sheep, not cattle, and that there is no evidence that the former president’s sons own farms.

The update of the rumor presents, in the editing of the montage, other content already denied by the agency to the facts in April this year. In the video, two men claim that the Grendene Farm was bought for R$90 million by Lula to be given to his son Lulinha (Fábio Luís Lula da Silva). The verification showed that the property belongs to Agropecuária Grendene, one of the companies linked to the family that operates in the footwear sector in the south of the country.

What does the publisher say?: The report sent messages to those responsible for the posts on Kwai and Facebook, but there was no response until the closing of this verification.

How do we check: Comprova split the two parts of the video that have narration and separated the frames using the tool InVid. Then he used the same application and the TinEye to do the reverse search for the images and find out if the videos had been previously published on the internet and in what context. the seeker Yandex found publications since 2017 that used excerpts from the videos.

Then the verification team sent messages to those responsible for the older posts of the video showing the animals and the one showing the trucks. In the first case, a Turkish page responded. In the second, there was no return.

Using the GoogleComprova also researched the names of the former president’s children associated with the word “farm”, in addition to consulting companies registered in the name of Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha, a frequent target of posts containing disinformation.

At the time, the report forwarded a message to the author of the post on TikTok and to an Instagram user who had also shared the content, but without captions. There was no response.

In the case of the boat video, a Google search led to the verification published by the agency. to the facts.

That investigation was reopened after the videos went viral in recent posts.

Lula’s son and the alleged farms

There is no evidence that the sons of former President Lula own farms in the south of Pará or in any other region of the country. When using the Google to search for their names associated with the word “farm”, Comprova found that there are dozens of verifications denying rumors that the eldest, Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha, is a rancher.

The Rumors.Org page, for example, made similar checks to this one. in June 2021, in February 2020 is at 2016noting that rumors about alleged Lula family farms have been circulating for many years.

In 2013, the page E-Scams proved to be false that Lulinha bought a farm valued at R$ 47 million. In 2019, the Agency Magnifying Glass showed that the “R$50 million farm owned by Lula’s son” is, in fact, a university campus in Piracicaba, and the Estadão Check proved to be false that the ex-president’s son bought “the biggest farm in the world”. In 2021, it was denied that he owns Fazenda Fortaleza, in the interior of São Paulo, for the to the facts and fur G1.

Comprova itself has already made other checks involving the name of the ex-president’s eldest son, proving to be false post that associates the governor of São Paulo João Doria and Lulinha in the purchase of the Coronavac vaccine is that there is no accusation stating that he “pocketed” R$ 317 million.

Using the tool CrossGraphsComprova identified that Lulinha is a partner in four companies whose main activity is information technology services. They are holdings of non-financial institutions, that is, entities controlling the holdings of a group of companies. They are: BR4 Participações LTDA., LLF Participações – Eireli, FFK Participações LTDA. and G4 Entretenimento e Tecnologia Digital LTDA.

In March 2021, the Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region determined the suspension of an open investigation against Lulinha, suspected of having received R$ 132 million from the operator Oi/Telemar through contracts with companies of the Gamecorp group, which brings together electronic game, media and technology services. In January of this year, the case has been filed by the Federal Court in São Paulo.

He was investigated within the scope of the 69th phase of Operation Lava-Jato and the case was referred to the Federal Court of São Paulo. Before the outbreak of the phase, the Federal Police even asked for Lulinha’s arrest, which was denied by the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba. The decision for the filing took into account the judgment of the Federal Supreme Court that annulled criminal actions related to Lava Jato from the recognition of the former judge’s partiality. Sergio Moro.

The investigation points to evidence that the values were used in the purchase of the Atibaia site (SP), property for which the ex-president Lula was sentenced. THE conviction was overturned in March of last year by Minister Edson Fachin, of the Federal Supreme Court, understanding that the competence of the judgment lies with the Federal Justice of the Federal District. The cases of the father and the son are being tried in different cases.

Video shows flock of sheep

Searching for fragments of the video showing the herd of animals, Comprova arrived at a Hong Kong AFP Fact Check verification who checked a rumor circulating in Asia. Although it has not confirmed who the author of the footage is or where it was shot, the outlet says that the content depicts sheep and was shared in 2019 on a Russian social network.

In this case, the video was also used for the construction of false information, but that circulated outside Brazil. At the time, those responsible for the misleading publications claimed that it was about the donation of 30,000 sheep by Mongolia to China during the coronavirus epidemic. It turns out that before the donation, announced on February 27, 2020, the images were already circulating on the internet.

Comprova continued searching for the images and identified that the same video was posted on Facebook by an arabic account entitled “Livestock and agriculture rarities”. The post was captioned “Glory to Almighty God, Lord of the worlds”, published on August 15, 2020. In this post, it is longer and two dogs herding the flock appear.

Other posts were located in a Russian social network, December 2019and in one video platform in the country, on May 6 of the same year – later the author restricted access to the video. In the latter, the content featured a montage with another video in which women appear treating sheep skins.

Two days earlier, in May 4, 2019, the herd video was posted on an Instagram account that only posts sheep videos. The caption, in Turkish, reads: “they control this herd with 2 dogs”. This was the oldest post of content found by Comprova. A message was sent to the user, asking for more information about the images. He replied that he had seen the content on a page a long time ago, where he had downloaded it from, but not remembering which one. He also stated that he was not responsible for recording the images.

Queue of trucks has been on YouTube since 2017

It was not possible to identify where the images showing an extensive line of trucks were recorded. Searching for the video fragments, Comprova found two files posted on YouTube. One, on January 3, 2020, already associated the presence of the vehicles with a “giant boarding at Lulinha’s farm in São Félix do Xingu”. The caption of the other, from 2017, only says “very heavy truck congestion!”. In this, the images are covered by a filter. Comprova left comments on both contents, questioning the origin of the videos, but did not receive a response until the publication of this check.

Farm in Mato Grosso belongs to Grendene

In April of this year, the agency to the facts found that the statements that the Ressaca Farm, in Cárceres (MT), belongs to Lulinha, were false. The verification showed that, according to the IRSthe company is managed by Gelson Rostirolla and has Pedro Grendene, Pedro Bartelle, Giovanna Velloso and Maria Cristina Camargo as partners.

The family owns the footwear company Grendene S/A – of which Gelson Rostirolla is VP Director –, who denied, to Aos Fatos, that the farm belonged to Lula or someone from the PT’s family. The same was informed by the former president’s adviser.

why do we investigate: Comprova investigates suspicious content that goes viral on the internet related to the 2022 presidential elections, the pandemic and public policies of the federal government. The content investigated here falsely attributes to the family of the presidential candidate Lula, the ownership of two farms, one in Pará and another in Mato Grosso. The dissemination of pieces of disinformation is a practice harmful to democracy, because the population has the right to make their choices based on reliable content.

Other checks on the topic: Comprova has frequently denied content related to presidential candidates running in this second round of elections. It recently showed that Video deceives by stating that Bolsonaro ended the fine for unfair dismissal and be a montage of a tweet attributed to the current president with attacks on Catholic religious, in addition to demonstrating thatacronym CPX in cap worn by Lula means complex and has no relation to faction and be montages the reproductions of Twitter and G1 that attribute statements about disarmament to the former president.
