RS: Former chief of prison is sentenced to 25 years in prison for corruption

The former director of the Rio Grande State Penitentiary, in Rio Grande do Sul, Leandro Brinkerhoff Seunes, was sentenced to 25 years and four months in prison for active corruption, passive corruption and money laundering . According to investigations, the agent facilitated the entry of cell phones, drugs and money in prison.

Two other inmates who participated in the crimes, identified as João Vitor Ribeiro Amaral and Leandro Araújo Nunes, were also sentenced to 13 years and 12 years, respectively.

Between 2021 and 2023, Seunes received approximately R $ 500 thousand to facilitate the entry of illicit materials in the penitentiary. The investigation also points out that the accused profited $ 4 million with drug trafficking inside the site.

As stated in the sentence, Leandro admitted that, on two occasions, facilitated the entry of cell phones in the penitentiary and claimed that it received values ​​from the devices in a fractional way, via Pix.

In addition to the penalty of more than 25 years of imprisonment, which should initially be enforced, the decision published on 11 April determines the loss of assets of the former director, approximately R $ 1.3 million, definitive loss of public office and ban for the exercise of office or public function for double the term of conviction.
