Rodrigo Faro reveals behind the scenes of the decision to play Silvio Santos in a film

The presenter and actor Rodrigo Faro 50, revealed that he initially did not want to accept the role of Silvio Santos in the film “Silvio” but a conversation with the founder of SBT gave him the confidence to play him in the movies. The film hits theaters on September 12.

“I really thought I couldn’t accept it because it’s so difficult. It’s so complicated to play this role. I got home and said, ‘Honey, [Vera Viel]they called me to play Silvio Santos in the movies’. And she said: ‘So what?’. I replied: ‘So I’ll continue my program and everything will be fine’. But she said: ‘He likes you so much. You were with him at the Troféu Imprensa. Why don’t you talk to him?’”, she said in a press conference last Wednesday (4).

“I sent a message to SBT’s press office and the next day I received a reply that Silvio would receive me in the dressing room. He questioned my visit, and I told him that I had been called to do the film. He started asking questions and talking about his life. Those 30 minutes I was there… was the biggest laboratory I did in this whole film. . While he was cooking, I observed every detail, prosody, punctuation, posture,” he said.

Faro recalled that the presenter invited him to participate in the Silvio Santos Program on that date, which was December 23, 2018, and said that it would be an honor to be played by him.

“That gave me security . I said: ‘Well, he likes the idea. And if he likes the idea, I’ll make that film for him and for him, and while he’s alive.’ It’s going to be an artist who will be honored while he’s alive… but God didn’t want it. This premiere was already scheduled last year for September 12th and God wanted to write another story. The honor is for him and the moments, his gaze for me, remain,” he continued.

The presenter, who returned to acting after 15 years, also spoke about how he would like to portray Silvio Santos, highlighting that he wanted to humanize the television figure.

“I had all the references from this conversation with him. And it was this Silvio that I wanted to bring to the film. The human Silvio. The Silvio in flesh and blood. The Silvio who has empathy. The Silvio who has the power of persuasion. (…) It is a great pride and satisfaction to be able, today, to talk about this project that began this way,” he said.

“The only pain is that he could have watched it. I really wanted to. Then I went up to him and said: ‘So, Silvão, did I get 1% close? So, tell me, did you like it?’. It was something I wanted to do one day”, he concluded.

Partnership with Vera Viel

Together for 27 years, Vera Viel made a point of accompanying Rodrigo Faro to the premiere night for guests of the film “Silvio”. In an interview with CNN the model spoke fondly about the presenter seeking her validation in every decision in his life.

“We shared everything. The first thing he said was about the invitation. We were talking and I said: ‘Honey, you know what I think? You have to talk about this doubt. Why don’t you try talking to him? [Silvio Santos]“Ask him what he thinks,” Vera Viel recalls advising him.

“That’s what happened! He managed to go to SBT, Silvio welcomed him on stage and gave him his blessing to do it. That was what really made him make the decision,” said the actor and presenter’s wife. When asked if she had acted as Rodrigo Faro’s “voice of conscience,” the model assured with a laugh: “Always.”

Even during the filming process, Faro continued to seek his wife’s opinion, always sharing with his family the improvement of his version of Senor Abravanel.

“He always showed us how he was doing it, because he studied a lot so that it wouldn’t look like a caricature. He had to do a Silvio for us to see and recognize,” Vera Viel assured.

The plot mixes fiction with facts. Starting with the kidnapping of Silvio Santos in 2001, the beginnings of Senor Abravanel’s career, from street vendor to the founding of SBT, are told.

In addition to Faro, two other actors play the presenter, but in other stages of his life: Vinicius Ricci and Felipe Castro . Names like Johnas Oliveira , Polliana Aleixo , Majorie Gerardi and Paul Weevil are also in the cast.
