Roberto Kalil debates the advances of science in relation to Alzheimer’s disease on CNN Sinais Vitas

O “CNN Vital Signs” inaugurates this Saturday (5) a new format: the mesacast, a relaxed chat to talk about important topics in a light and informative way.

In the first edition, Dr. Roberto Kalil welcomes the neurologists Ricardo Nitrini who is a teacher Senior Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine at USP, and Sonia Brucki who coordinates the HCFMUSP Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Group.

On the agenda, Alzheimer’s disease, one of the most common forms of dementia in the world today, responsible for 80% of cases.

Both interviewees have just returned from Holland, where they participated in the International Conference of the Alzheimer’s Association, which took place in July, and bring to the conversation everything that is most recent known about diagnosis and treatment, including new possibilities for medications that can help to delay the advancement of the disease.

Today, there are more than 1 million Brazilians with Alzheimer’s, and around 100,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. A problem that tends to get even worse with the aging of the population, which is a worldwide phenomenon.
