Robert Downey Jr. gets emotional when he thanks Nolan for his role in “Oppenheimer”

During press interviews, Robert Downey Jr. has shown a little-seen side of director Christopher Nolan, generally known for being more introverted.

At a press conference, in which the protagonist of “Oppenheimer”, Cillian Murphy, was also present, Robert Downey Jr. made a moving thank you to Nolan for his role as Lewis Strauss in the film, as reported by Variety.

Even though he is recognized worldwide for his role as Iron Man in the Marvel films, Downey Jr. said that Nolan's invitation was essential for his career.

“I was at a point in my career where I needed someone who had a vision of what was possible for me that I couldn't see for myself,” said the actor, who is up for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role. in Nolan's film.

Downey Jr. said the invitation came to him unexpectedly: “I got a call saying I should go to Chris's house, which is kind of exciting in itself.” And he joked: “I've been investigating the place for weeks!”

Nolan said he doesn't like being around while other people read his scripts. That's why Downey Jr. joked, when referring to the moment he was alone at Nolan's house to read the “Oppenheimer” script: “You know those paintings that have eyes? I think I saw the eyelids move a little.”

At the end of the interview, the actor praised Nolan again: “You are generous with the time you dedicate to being able to help people find the scenes, if they are not exactly on point.”

“I love you man!” Nolan exclaimed afterwards, causing the audience to applaud and Downey to kick his feet up.

“Unprecedented!” shouted Robert Downey Jr. “This is a whole new Chris!”
