RJ: woman killed in shooting on Linha Amarela was mother of 7-month-old baby

A shootout between military police and robbers left two victims dead, this Tuesday morning (18), on a stretch of the Yellow Line, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. The victims were identified as Deborah Vilas Boas Pires da Silva, aged 27, and José Carlos da Silva Miranda, aged 64.

Deborah was shot while waiting at a nearby bus stop. The bullet hit the victim in the back of the head, who died at the scene, according to the Fire Department.

Deborah leaves behind her husband and a 7-month-old daughter. On social media, she used to post about her baby’s development. On May 13th, when the child turned 6 months old, her mother wrote: “When they say time flies, believe me!! I ask every day that time moves very slowly so that mom and dad can really enjoy this phase of discovery.”

The victim was a production engineer, graduated in 2022 from Universidade Candido Mendes, in Rio de Janeiro.

The second victim, José Carlos da Silva Miranda, was inside a bus when he was shot. The victim’s backpack was collected by police officers with blood stains.

The case

Two people who were passing through Linha Amarela, an expressway located in the north of Rio de Janeiro, died after being hit by gunshots during a shootout between military police and robbers this Tuesday morning (18).

According to the civil police, the military witnessed a motorcycle theft in front of a bus stop, close to exit 7 on the Yellow Line.

The agents approached the robbers, who allegedly tried to escape, shooting at the police officers.

At the time, the two victims, who were not involved in the incident, were hit. Firefighters were called and found the deaths at the scene.

One of the criminals was captured by the police after also being shot. He was transported to Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital, in Méier. The other suspect managed to escape.

Two pistols were seized in the raid.

The case was reported to the 21st Police Station, in Bonsucesso, which reported the incident to the Homicide Police Station.
