The 24-year-old app delivery man, hospitalized after being shot by a customer last Monday (4), showed an improvement in his health.
According to friends of the victim heard by the CNN , the motorcycle courier is already talking to family and friends and is showing clinical progress. He already tells those closest to him that he wants to get back to work soon.
Nilton was shot after an argument with a military police officer, identified as Roy Martins Cavalcanti, in Vila Valqueire, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. The fight allegedly started after the victim refused to enter the condominium to deliver it to the PM, who had requested a meal via app.
He was taken by the Fire Department to Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital.
The shooter reported himself to the area police station. The Rio de Janeiro Military Police reported that the Internal Affairs Department opened an investigative procedure to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
The iFood platform reported that it offers legal support to the injured motorcyclist.
Police officer excluded from the platform
The customer who shot the delivery man was banned from the iFood platform, according to the company.
According to the platform, “the delivery person’s obligation is to leave the order at the first point of contact, be it the house gate or the building entrance”.
Violence against delivery people
A survey by the Fogo Cruzado Institute shows that 44 delivery drivers were shot in the city of Rio de Janeiro and the metropolitan region in the last eight years. Of these, 26 died.
iFood reported that, last year, it entered into a partnership with the Rio de Janeiro Housing Union “to raise awareness among residents and train doormen and condominium managers in the city”.
“We recently launched a Policy to Combat Discrimination and Violence that provides for conduct that is not accepted, penalties for aggressors and forms of protection for victims. We hope that the case does not go unpunished and that Nilton recovers”, concludes the company’s statement.
