Rita Lee had her own program, participated in soap operas and even played Raul Seixas

Brazilian rock queen Rita Lee died on Monday night (8), aged 75, due to lung cancer that she acquired in 2021 and had been being treated for some time. In addition to being one of the greatest symbols of national rock and a revolutionary landmark for her behavior and opinions, Rita also shone in other areas, such as on TV and movie screens. In 1991, the singer hosted her own show, broadcast on MTV throughout 1991.

Aired on Saturday nights, “TV Leezão” featured Rita’s irreverent comments and reflections loaded with her characteristic acidic humor about the musical and cultural context of the time.

Approaching themes such as the influence of the 60s in the 90s and the character of the existentialist movement, during the 30 minutes of the episodes, the singer enchanted the audience, still playing characters created by herself, such as the “macho” Aníbal, the witty Gininha and the elegant Adelaide Adams.

Reiterating the program’s musical character, “TV Leezão” also featured the screening of several music videos and interviews with great Brazilian personalities, such as Wanderléa, Gilberto Gil, Pelé and Marisa Monte.

Another striking moment of Rita Lee as a presenter took place on the GNT channel during the 2000s, where she was part of the “Saia Justa” team from 2002 to 2004, alongside Mônica Waldvogel, Marisa Orth and Fernanda Young.

She even commanded the program “Madame Lee”, in 2006, where she worked as an analyst alongside her life partner, Roberto de Carvalho, in consultations on specific topics, also on GNT.

Still on television, the singer made appearances both as herself and playing characters in some programs and soap operas on Rede Globo, being in “Os Trapalhões” (1977), “Top Model” (1989), “Vamp” (1991) , “Sai de Baixo” (1997), “Celebridade” (2003) and “Ti Ti Ti” (2010).

In the cinematographic scope, Rita Lee’s career coincides with the beginning of her work in Os Mutantes at the end of the 60s. The singer’s first appearance on the big screen was in 1968, in the drama “As Amorosas”, where, alongside her bandmates – Arnaldo Baptista and Sérgio Dias-, played a club singer.

Twenty years later, the artist made a cameo in the comedy “Fogo e Paixão” (1988), by Marcio Kogan and Isay Weinfeld. The following year, she stood out in “Dias Melhores Virão” (1989), both as Mary Shadow, an international actress who was dubbed by the true protagonist of the film, Marília Pêra, and for writing the theme song for the feature along with her husband Roberto de Oak.

One of Rita Lee’s great moments in national drama was in the film “Tanta Estrela Por Aí…” (1992), where she surprised by incorporating Raul Seixas, to narrate the real story of when the artist was mistaken for an impostor of himself.

In the 2000s, the singer gave life to Tia Julieta in “Durval Discos” (2002), and voiced the characters Rê Bordosa, in “Wood & Stock: Sexo, Orégano e Rock’n’Roll”, and the worm Martha, from “Minhocas” (2013), who also won her red hair and blue eyes.

With her last performances in 2014, as the Pirate in the drama “A Primeira Missa ou Tristes Tropeços, Enganos e Urucum”, and Grão Mestre in one of the episodes of the series “Manual para se Defende de Aliens, Ninjas e Zumbis” (2017), Rita Lee was mentioned in documentaries about the history of national music, such as “Uma Noite em 67” (2010) and “Tropicália” (2012), and in the biopic “Rita Lee – Ovelha Negra”, from 2007, which narrates her trajectory from childhood to his artistic consecration, still with excerpts from concerts and presentations that marked his career.
