Rio police investigate woman who offended and assaulted restaurant employees

The Rio Civil Police launched an inquiry to investigate the woman identified as Juliana de Almeida Cezar Machado. She was caught offending and assaulting employees of the restaurant “Casa do Saulo” which is located inside the Museum of Tomorrow, in the port area of ​​the city.

A CNN had access to the images taken on Saturday (27). In the video, the woman who goes as far as to lie saying that she is a judge, appears using homophobic lines to offend the chef, Isabela Duarte.

The aggressor, who is actually a psychologist, still hits the victim’s arm with a glass of wine to the point of bleeding. In an interview with the press, Isabela said that she was very scared.

“She started uttering homophobic, prejudiced words at me, totally out of control. The people who were present started to hold her so that she wouldn’t attack anyone else. It was unbelievable. We keep replaying the events in our heads and it is hard to believe that this still happens”.

According to restaurant employees, the psychologist arrived at the establishment already altered, arguing with the parents and treating the waiters badly. One of them, who is gay and was also the victim of abuse, said the situation got out of hand after the accused drank two bottles of wine.

In all, five people reported having suffered physical and verbal aggression: the chef, her assistant, a waiter and two customers. The police were called and the woman was taken in handcuffs to the police station. Juliana de Almeida Cezar Machado was heard and then released.

The civil police reported that the 4th DP (President Vargas) launched an inquiry to investigate the crimes of homophobic insult, bodily harm and threat. Those involved and witnesses are being heard and agents are taking other steps to clarify the facts.

The chef, Isabela Duarte, testified shortly after what happened and said she will continue to monitor the case.

“We cannot let this pass. From the moment we start to keep silent about it, we become accomplices and end up validating this type of
behavior. This is not what we want. We want justice.”

The restaurant “Casa do Saulo” released a note repudiating what happened. In an excerpt, they highlight: “Our table is always set for inclusion, respect and love. We say no to homophobia, racism, xenophobia and any kind of prejudice!”

The Museum of Tomorrow classified the fact as a regrettable act of aggression and homophobia.
