The Judiciary of Rio de Janeiro postponed the date of trial of the impeached deputy Flordelis. Previously scheduled for May 9, Judge Nearis dos Santos Arce rescheduled the session to June 6, at 9 am. The magistrate understood that there was not enough time to gather all the reports requested by the defendants’ defenses. In addition to Flordelis, four other people will be tried in June.
The defendants are accused of involvement in the death of Pastor Anderson do Carmo, who was shot dead at his home in Niterói on June 16, 2019. In this second part of the session at the Jury Court of Niterói, Flordelis, his biological daughter, will be tried. Simone dos Santos Rodrigues, granddaughter Rayane dos Santos Oliveira, and affective children André Luiz de Oliveira and Marzy Teixeira da Silva.
The first trial took place on April 12, and ended on the morning of the following day. At the time, the Jury Court convicted four defendants involved in the murder of the pastor and then-husband of Flordelis.
Adriano dos Santos Rodrigues, Flordelis’ biological son, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for misrepresentation. Carlos Ubiraci da Silva, Flordelis’ affective son, was acquitted of the charge of triple qualified murder, but convicted of criminal association with a sentence of two years and two months, in a semi-open regime. Former PM Marcos Siqueira Costa was sentenced to five years and 20 days in prison, for criminal association and use of a false document, as was his wife, Andrea Santos Mais – she got four years and three months plus a fine.
In November last year, the Jury Court had already sentenced Flordelis’ biological son, Flávio dos Santos Rodrigues, to 33 years, 2 months and 20 days of imprisonment in a regime initially closed for consummated triple qualified homicide, illegal possession of a firearm, use of an ideologically false document and armed criminal association. In addition to him, Lucas Cezar dos Santos de Souza, Flordelis’ adopted son, was also sentenced for triple-qualified murder to nine years in prison in an initially closed regime. Lucas is accused of having been responsible for acquiring the weapon used in the pastor’s murder.
Defeat in STJ
Last Tuesday (26), the sixth class of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) denied a request for habeas corpus filed by Flordelis’ defense. In a unanimous decision, the preventive detention of the former deputy was maintained. The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, José Adonis, said during the session that Flordelis acted underhandedly, in the way he covered up the facts about the murder. Also according to him, she ordered her own relatives to execute her husband.
remember the case
Pastor Anderson do Carmo, 42, was shot dead in the early hours of June 16, 2019, in the garage of the house where he lived with his family in Pendotiba, in the city of Niterói, in the metropolitan region of Rio.
Flordelis and 10 other people were denounced by the Public Ministry (MP) for the murder, in 2019, of Anderson do Carmo de Souza, then husband of the parliamentarian. At the time, the then parliamentarian did not have her arrest requested because of parliamentary immunity.
According to the MP, of the pastor’s 55 biological and adopted children, seven are involved in the crime, in addition to a granddaughter and two other people. In the document, the MP also mentions that, on several occasions, Flordelis tried to manipulate witnesses in the process that investigates the death of Anderson do Carmo. Among the accusations, there are also several attempts to poison the pastor.
