Councilman Marcelo Arar (PTB) was the target, on the morning of this Wednesday (27), of an operation by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro that investigates suspicion of corruption crimes committed within the scope of the extinct Undersecretariat of Sanitary Surveillance of the City (current Ivisa).
The crimes, according to the MP in Rio, would have been committed in late 2017 and early 2018.
The action, carried out through the Specialized Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO/MPRJ), fulfilled seven search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to four people, in addition to Arar.
Regarding the suspicions against the councilor, the CNN contacted the parliamentary press office.
In a note, the councilor declared that the “role of the councilor is to help improve the life of the citizen, intermediating solutions and guiding in any type of problem related to the municipal public power”.
“If there was any irregularity on the part of any executive agent, I have no interference or responsibility over him,” the statement added.
“I have a clean and transparent public life, I trust the institutions and the Justice and I will provide all the necessary clarifications as soon as we have access to the records”, concludes Marcelo Arar.
Among the addresses targeted by the operation are the City Council of Rio de Janeiro and the Municipal Institute for Sanitary Surveillance, Zoonoses Surveillance and Agricultural Inspection – Ivisa-Rio.
The operation also had the assistance of the Security and Intelligence Coordination of the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CSI/MPRJ), the Civil Police, through the Treasury Department (DELFAZ), and the Military Police (PMERJ).
THE CNNIvisa replied that it is “collaborating with the investigations and following the progress and conclusion of the case”.
