Ridley Scott is tipped to direct Bee Gees biopic

Another band will get a biopic to tell its story on the big screen: the Bee Gees. After the release of “Bob Marley: One Love”, Paramount Pictures would be considering director Ridley Scott of “Alien”, “Napoleon” and “Gladiator” for the new project.

The information comes from Deadline, which states that the agreement between them is not yet closed. Furthermore, the film's title and release date have not yet been announced.

However, the portal states that Scott would produce alongside his producing partner Michael Pruss of Scott Free, Graham King through his GK Films banner and Stacey Snider. John Logan, in turn, is responsible for the script and Barry Gibb, a member of the group, is executive producing.

Logan's involvement could be key for the director to accept the studio's proposal, but Scott's connection with the Bee Gees is also old, as in the 1970s, he was considered to direct “Castle Accident, a film that would have starred the musicians, but ended up being canceled in the early stages of development. Additionally, Logan and Scott have already worked together on “Gladiator” and “Alien: Covenant”.

Deadline also mentions that Paramount obtained the lifetime rights to the Gibb family estate in 2019, as well as the rights to the band's classic songs in a film that could very well follow the model of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Film in 2019.

The Bee Gees have sold more than 220 million records worldwide, establishing the band as one of the best-selling groups of all time. The group was made up of English brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb who began performing in the late 1950s.

However, their popularity grew after they wrote songs for the film “Saturday Night Fever” or as it is known in Brazil, “Saturday Night Fever” which starred in the late 70s, with John Travolta in the lead role.

Maurice died suddenly in January 2003 at the age of 53, while Robin died nine years later at the age of 62, leaving Barry Gibb as the only surviving member of the group.
