The 10.9% rise in the service sector, announced this Thursday (10) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), is “an important result”, according to the economics professor at Ibmec in São Paulo, Walter Frank.
In an interview with CNN Rádio, he assessed that it is necessary to look at the numbers of the Brazilian economy with “less passion and more down to earth.”
“The economy has an interesting potential for recovery, it is important and differentiated, it is dynamic, with a diversified market”, he added.
“This result is important to look at the numbers with a more careful magnifying glass, to interpret them better and to realize that there is potential for the economy to recover consistently over time”, he defended.
Walter Franco praised the service sector’s ability to adapt quickly in the last 2 years when facing the problem of the pandemic. “Establishments closed, but there was some absorption of labor and generation of wealth and income, this is my defense.”
Despite the optimism, the economist reinforced that the biggest problem in 2022 will be unemployment. “The priority is to generate employment, so that interesting growth can be resumed. Unfortunately, we still have 12 million unemployed people.”
