“Resignation aims to facilitate transition at Petrobras”, says Mourão to CNN

Vice President Hamilton Mourão told CNN Brazil that the resignation of José Mauro Coelho from the command of Petrobras aims to facilitate and speed up the transition process in the state-owned company.

“I believe that the president’s resignation aims to facilitate the transition process, as Caio Paes de Andrade has already been nominated for the role”, he said.

The military’s demonstration is the first by a member of the government after the announcement by José Mauro Coelho, late this Monday morning (20).

The decision came three days after a new fuel price readjustment and amid pressure from the federal government to leave, which even involved the creation of a Petrobras CPI.

Coelho was fired a month ago, and the process of checking the candidate nominated to be his replacement, Caio Paes de Andrade, has already started.

The state-owned company announced that, while the name of Caio Paes de Andrade is not confirmed, director Fernando Borges, a career employee at Petrobras, will head the company on an interim basis.

Despite the brief period of José Mauro Coelho, he was not the president who spent the least amount of time at the head of Petrobras. The record holder was Osvino Ferreira Alves, appointed by former president João Goulart and who left the company after the 1964 military coup.
