The services of streaming movies and series are already part of the budget of 79% of Brazilians according to a survey carried out by Serasa. At the same time, 70% of respondents found themselves attending the cinema . More than half (60%) agree that the growth of platforms impacts this decrease.
On average, Brazilians pay two streaming services and spend up to R$100 per month on subscriptions with 68% being solely responsible for payment and 51% sharing access with friends and family. Regarding preferences, the survey indicates that 68% prefer monthly subscriptions .
Already 4 in 10 Brazilians cannot commit to the extra expense and 40% are afraid of getting into debt due to multiple streaming subscriptions.
The survey also shows that 7 out of 10 Brazilians admit to reducing their attendance at movie theaters, exchanging one expense for another.
Among the reasons listed that led to a decrease in moviegoing, 39% of respondents stated that they can watch productions in the comfort of their own home and 16% said they do not see the need to leave home to watch something. Meanwhile, 37% highlighted the increased costs of watching a movie on the big screen. Another 16% stated that the content they want to see is not usually available in the cinema.
For the survey, Serasa interviewed 2,000 people in July 2024, 52% of whom were women and 48% of whom were men, from all regions of Brazil. Most of those interviewed lived in the Southeast (45%), Northeast (25%) and South (15%). Residents of the North and Central-West represent 9% and 8% of those interviewed, respectively. The age ranges from 18 years old to 50 years old or older.
