Fitness influencer Renato Cariani, who is a defendant in a case in which he is accused of drug trafficking, association for trafficking and money laundering, achieved the first victory since being investigated. In a decision this Monday (15), the São Paulo Court authorized the release of his passport.
With the decision, Renato Cariani now has the right to leave the country for professional activities, as long as he notifies the court at least 15 days in advance and presents round-trip tickets.
Since February this year, when the Court accepted the complaint filed by the Public Ministry of São Paulo, the influencer had his document suspended in the Federal Police databases, which prevented him from leaving the country.
The decision, which CNN had access, it is a response to a request from the influencer's defense, which is represented by lawyers Aldo Romani and José Eduardo Cardozo.
The lawyers justified that the “seizure of the passport implies evident and disproportionate harm to the patient, whose professional performance has already been severely impacted by the repercussions of the investigations”, according to an excerpt from the document.
In the understanding of Justice, even though the facts investigated may be considered serious, Cariani “has shown himself to be collaborative in relation to the investigations and the criminal process”, says the document.
“In other words, the defendant did not commit any act that indicated his inclination to negatively influence the investigation of the charges or evade the application of criminal law,” says the decision.
Remember the case
Renato Cariani was one of the targets of the Hinsberg operation, launched by the PF in December 2023.
The investigation revealed a scheme that operated between 2014 and 2020, in which the influencer's company, Anidrol Produtos para Laboratórios LTDA, issued fraudulent invoices simulating the sale of inputs to pharmaceutical companies, including AstraZeneca.
During the investigation, the police uncovered the plot that involved “oranges” who made cash deposits to suppliers, as if they were pharmaceutical employees.
The supply chain involved traffickers who diverted inputs for the refining and adulteration of cocaine and crack.
In February of this year, the Court accepted the complaint from the São Paulo Public Ministry, with Cariani and four other people becoming defendants in the process. Since then, the case has followed procedural rites.
