Renan Quinalha, CNN Specialist in diversity and issues about the LGBTQIA+ community, spoke this Saturday (11) about the decision of the Federal Court of Acre that determined the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity in the 2022 Census.
“The LGBTQIA+ population suffers a series of violence by action or omission of the Brazilian state. One of the most serious is the social invisibility and statistical erasure of this population,” Quinalha said.
“We don’t know how this population lives, what access they have to public education, health and social assistance services, what their insertion in the job market, their income and so on,” he added.
He stated that the Census is the main instrument to determine the Brazilian reality, as it allows knowing who Brazilians are and how they live.
“The IBGE will have some difficulties in the methodology to incorporate these fields on sexual orientation and gender diversity. But, certainly, with his competence and experience, he will be able to handle this task”, said the CNN Specialist.
“It is important that this happens as early as the 2022 Census. It is not possible to wait another 10 years for this information to exist.”
