Relive the biggest air tragedies involving Brazil

The Voepass airline plane, which was flying between Cascavel, in Paraná, and Guarulhos Airport, in São Paulo, crashed in the city of Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo, killing 62 people.

Flight 2283 has joined the list of the worst air accidents involving Brazilians. It was the worst accident in Brazilian commercial aviation since 2007, when a TAM plane left the runway at Congonhas Airport and crashed into the airline’s hangar, killing 187 people on board.

Lamia Flight 2933

A plane carrying Chapecoense players, members of the coaching staff and journalists to the match against Atlético Nacional to play in the final of the Copa Sudamericana in Colombia crashed on November 28, 2016, killing 71 people near the airport in Medellin (Colombia). Six people were rescued alive.

Air France Flight 447

Flight AF447, an Air France Airbus A330, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1, 2009, killing 228 people.

The bodies were being found 70 km from the region where the aircraft made last contact, in the region of the archipelago of São Pedro and São Paulo.

TAM Flight 3054

The TAM (now Latam) Airbus A320, registration PP-MBK, took off at 5:19 p.m. on July 17, 2007 from Salgado Filho Airport in Porto Alegre. Shortly before 7 p.m., the aircraft had problems landing and crashed into a TAM Express building.

The aircraft had 187 people on board, including 181 passengers (two were infants) and six crew members on duty.

GOL Flight 1907

In 2006, a Gol Boeing 737 crashed in Mato Grosso after being hit by a Legacy jet. The accident left 134 people dead.

Flight 1907 took off from Manaus (AM) and was headed for the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Learjet Flight 25D

The jet carrying the members of the irreverent music and performance group crashed into the Serra da Cantareira late on Saturday night, March 2, 1996, just minutes before landing in Guarulhos, the group’s hometown.

All members died (Dinho, brothers Samuel and Sérgio, Júlio and Bento), pilot Jorge Luiz Germano Martins, co-pilot Alberto Yoshihume Takeda and two assistants to the artists, stagehand Isaac Souto Schuri Lambers and security guard Sérgio Saturnino Porto.

VASP Flight 727

A Vasp Boeing 727 crashes into a hill shortly before landing in Fortaleza, Ceará, leaving 137 dead. At the time, it was the worst air disaster in national aviation.

Transbrasil Flight

Transbrasil Flight 303 was a national airline of the same name and connected Belém to Porto Alegre, via stops in several capitals. On April 12, 1980, a plane crash would interrupt flight 303 near Florianópolis.

Carrying 50 passengers and 8 crew members, the Boeing 727 registration PT-TYS that operated this airline crashed into the slope of Morro da Virgínia (32 kilometers from Florianópolis Airport) during its approach to landing at Hercílio Luz Airport. Of the 58 occupants of the aircraft, only 3 survived the disaster.
