Delegate Fábio Luiz da Silva Souza, head of the 34th DP of Rio de Janeiro (Bangu), stated that Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes, 42 years old, who was caught taking a dead elderly man to a bank branch, was unable to make other loans in the name of the elderly.
On March 16, Erika took the body of Paulo Roberto Braga, 68 years old, to a bank branch to try to withdraw the amount of a loan worth R$17,000.
Bank employees noticed that the man was not moving. They were surprised and started recording the situation. In the video, Erika calls the elderly man “Uncle Paulo” and holds his hand to simulate as if he were signing the document. Doctors from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) were called and confirmed the death. Erika was arrested the same day.
On April 18, the delegate stated, in an interview with CNN that there was a suspicion that Erika had tried to take out other loans in the elderly man’s name.
