The actress and former Secretary of Culture of the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Regina Duarte, apologized this Friday (3), after sharing the video of the councilor of Caxias do Sul Sandro Fantinel (without party), who during speech at the City Council gave some “advice” to wine producers in the region: not to hire workers from Bahia, but from Argentina.
“Based on the interpretations I received in relation to my post with Councilman Sandro Fantinel’s speech, I have been looking for more information about the case of the Rio Grande do Sul wineries and I now return to apologize for having addressed a subject that I did not have enough background on” , said Regina Duarte.
In his speech, the councilor criticized the action to rescue workers from the Northeast in a situation of slavery in Rio Grande do Sul wineries. “Farmers, producers, agricultural companies that are following me right now, I’m going to give you some advice: don’t hire those people from above anymore. Talk to me, let’s create a line and let’s hire Argentines, because all the farmers who have Argentines working today just clap their hands”.
When responding to a comment about the case, Regina said that “his indignation deserved space for a discussion on the subject”.
“That is: democracy. Keep everyone thinking and acting the same and still using hate to demonstrate that we put up with our differences? And that? Only dictatorship forces everyone to think and act the same. Put yourself: this is the proposal here on my IG [Instagram] plural form. Didn’t like it? Look for proposals similar to yours. What are we going to wait for to dare to see and accept that the other thinks and acts on the other side of this ignoble polarization created precisely to separate us?!”, continued the actress.
Now, she says that anyone who knows her “knows that it would never be like me to support xenophobia, prejudice and social injustice”. And, when watching the video, she felt “that it was the emotional speech of a farmer defending his work to contribute to reducing unemployment in the country”.
“I hope that Justice, in compliance with labor laws, will give reason to those who deserve it. The most important thing, it now seems to me, is that we use this debate to seek
more Education opportunities and consequent respect for Brazilian producers/farmers and salaried workers.”
