Ray-Ban Stories, how the “smart” glasses work by Maria Rosaria Boccia

Nothing science fiction. The spy glasses which many are even using as a humorous starting point to comment on the filming of the entrepreneur Mary Rosaria Bocciathe woman involved in theSangiuliano affairhave been on the market for some time now. These are the Ray-Ban Stories (now called Ray-Ban Meta) glasses built by Luxottica with Meta technologies that can be used to take photos, shoot videos – as Boccia did in Montecitorio, publishing some excerpts to respond blow for blow to the denials on live TV by the former director of Tg2 and the president Giorgia Meloni – and listen to music.

It is true that when you record you hear a sound and a small white led it activates above the right lens of the glasses but, first, this is not a news of common awareness (not everyone, that is, connects the light to the recovery) and, second, There are many ways to cancel or reduce that led. YouTube is full of short tutorials on the point. This aspect of powerful invasion of privacy or even of the most basic correctness of relationships had been highlighted by many critics at the time of the product’s launch.

Sangiuliano case, from the admission of the “private matter” to the glasses with the camera: what we know so far
The case exploded on August 26, when Maria Rosaria Boccia, on Instagram, thanked the minister for her appointment as Advisor for Major Events. And the press began to wonder who that 41-year-old was

«Nothing illegal“, wrote in her Instagram stories the co-protagonist of the affair involving the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano. It remains to be carefully evaluated – based on the contents eventually disseminated – whether that behavior does not violate the regulations of the Chamber to do it in Montecitorio, where great confidentiality is in force even for professional photographers who intervene in the sessions of the assembly or at the hosted events, and perhaps without informing the interlocutors.

That said, the Ray-Ban Stories – originally available in three models Round, Wayfarer And Meteor and different frames and lenses, just like any other pair of glasses that can be assembled as desired – were launched in 2021. In fact just this year they have been updated and they are simply called Ray Ban Metawith the addition of other models, the camera update brought to 12 Mpixelsimproved open-ear audio, the addition of two microphones, the introduction of the touchpad on the earpiece, 100 design combinations, four hours of battery life (with the case it can be recharged up to eight times) and support for voice commands to have your hands free for some basic operations, useful for avoiding using your smartphone.

They have never met with much public favor, to be honest. They do not have any particular artificial intelligence or mixed and augmented reality features. They are, in essence, exactly what they say: glasses that take photos and record clips and also work as earphones for music or phone calls. That was enough to send the government into a tailspin.
