Rave site in Israel hit by Hamas attracts tourists

The place where Hamas carried out one of the most violent attacks against Israel on October 7, 2023, in the south of the country, has attracted foreigners and Israelis who walk among posters bearing the names and photos of the dead, murdered during a rave in the same local.

Some record videos and photos on their cell phones. Others cry.

“It's very important to come and see for yourself,” said Samantha Malcar from Canada.

“You see all these posters of real faces. And you see the destruction. You see they were real people who lost their lives just for coming to a party.”

Thousands of young people celebrated in the early hours of October 7, when Hamas gunmen arrived from Gaza.

According to authorities, 364 people were shot, beaten or burned to death and some were sexually assaulted at the Nova festival, in a wooded stretch near Kibbutz Re'im. In total, 1,200 Israelis died and at least another 200 people were taken hostage to Gaza, five kilometers away.

Some tourists come on visits organized by civil society groups, others come independently to pay tribute to those killed at the Nova festival.
