Rains on the coast of SP leave 5 critical points in Petrobras oil pipeline

The oil pipeline of the São Sebastião/Cubatão (OSBAT) system, owned by Petrobras, presented five critical points after the heavy rains that hit the north coast of São Paulo. The company has already set up a contingency plan to remove oil from the sea passing through Santos.

The damaged structure dates back to 1968 and helps the state-owned company to remove oil extracted from deep layers of the sea, off the coast of São Paulo. There are two lines that carry oil. The first between São Sebastião, the city most affected by the rains, and Guaratuba, with a length of 70 km, and the other between Guaratuba and the Presidente Bernardes Refinery (RPBC), in Cubatão, with a length of 50 km.

Technical teams from Petrobras are trying to access the structure by land and sea. If it is not possible to solve the problem quickly, the flow of oil can be reduced, since the elaborated containment plan is based on a pipeline with a more limited volume.

The oil removed by the state-owned company guarantees the supply of the Presidente Bernardes refineries, in Cubatão, and Capuava, in Mauá. In these places, oil is transformed into fuel to supply the Southeast region of the country.

Over the past few days, Petrobras has mobilized its structure to provide support to people affected by the rains and landslides on the north coast of São Paulo.

Among other actions, they provided a helipad, 15,000 liters of aviation kerosene, support in flying over affected areas, providing infrastructure at the company’s terminal for emergency teams and donating basic food baskets, mattresses, cleaning material, diapers and items supply to the community.
