Rains caused at least 150 deaths in Brazil in five months

After two years of severe drought and drought, heavy rains have already devastated four states and dozens of cities in Brazil; there are already more than 150 dead in the five months since the rainy season began in the country. The states of Bahia, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo were the most affected.

The number of victims in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, continues to rise, until the night of this Wednesday (16) local authorities had confirmed 94 deaths and hundreds of homeless.

The same occurred in Bahia, the storms between December and early January were considered the biggest natural disasters ever recorded in the state. During this period, 26 people died in southern Bahia.

In Minas Gerais, from October to the beginning of this year there was also a record of heavy rains. As in Bahia, 26 people died in the state of Minas Gerais as a result of storms and landslides.

In the state of São Paulo, the tragedy occurred between January and February. The cities of Franco da Rocha and Francisco Morato were the most affected, the disasters caused by excessive rain caused the death of 34 people in the region.

THE CNNa climatologist made a worrying warning, according to him, storms will be even more frequent worldwide due to human action and global warming, disasters – called natural – are actually a reflection of the advance of deforestation and the rise in temperature of the planet.
