Rain affects 16 houses and leaves residents homeless in Petrópolis, Rio

At least 56 people had to go to relatives’ homes or shelter units, after the rains that hit the municipality of Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro. According to the civil defense, 16 houses were affected and families had to leave their properties, until further inspections are carried out to assess housing conditions.

Also according to the agency, in the last three days 62 occurrences were recorded, which mainly affected the first district. Most cases were landslides on roads close to buildings. This Sunday (19), at 11 am, the municipality returned to the attention stage.

Rain also causes disturbances in five southern municipalities

Last Friday (17), a storm left damage in some cities in the state. The municipalities of Barra Mansa, Rio Claro, Paracambi, Paulo de Frontin and Mendes, in southern Rio de Janeiro, were heavily punished. According to the city of Rio Claro, the head of the Alto do Rio das Pedras bridge was completely destroyed and measures are being taken to reopen the road.

Residents and merchants also had their properties invaded by water and many people lost everything. In the city, even the emergency room was flooded. In Nova Iguaçu, in the lowlands of Rio de Janeiro, 36 incidents were registered between Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday (18), the secretaries of State for Government, Rodrigo Bacellar, and for Cities, Uruan Andrade, flew over the municipalities of Barra Mansa, Rio Claro, Paracambi, Paulo de Frontin and Mendes to verify local demands. Governor Cláudio Castro’s determination is that all secretariats and bodies are ready for any occurrences.

In the capital of Rio de Janeiro, there was a record of 60 occurrences last Friday (17). Several neighborhoods were flooded and at least 32 sirens were activated in 20 communities. The city entered the attention stage, the third of five levels, but on Saturday (18), the city returned to the normality stage.

The weather forecast for the coming days is moderate rain until Wednesday (22). According to information from Climatempo, this Sunday (19), the humid ocean winds remain active and maintain the varied cloudiness in Rio. The sky should remain cloudy to partially cloudy with light rain, isolated, during the dawn and morning period.
