Emir do Qatar, Check Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, arrived in Moscow on Thursday (17) to talk to President Vladimir Putin about Ukraine and Middle East issues, on a trip that the Russian government described as very important.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the two leaders would have a “serious conversation” about a number of issues and sign several agreements.
“It is difficult to overestimate the role of Qatar as a whole today in many regional and even world matters. Qatar is our good partner, Russian-Catarian relations are developing very dynamically and contacts between heads of state are quite frequent,” Peskov told reporters.
Qatar made a series of attempts to mediate between Russia and Ukraine and helped organize the return of children from both countries separate from their parents during the war.
Russia and Qatar said this week that leaders would discuss efforts to find a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
United States President Donald Trump said repeatedly that he wants to end the bloodbath, but has not yet made a breakthrough. Moscow stated that it is not easy to reach an agreement.
Qatar Foreign Minister of State Mohammed Al-Kulafi told state news agency Tass that Emir’s conversations with Putin would address topics such as Ukraine, Syria, Gaza and Energy Strip, such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
Putin told Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, which was important for Moscow to discuss the Israel-Palestina conflict and the future of Syria during the visit.
