His strong ally President Vladimir Putin said today that the US coordinated with Ukraine on the killing of two pro-war nationalists in Russia and attacks on critical national infrastructure in an attempt to undermine stability.
After Russia invaded Ukraine last February in a “special military operation”as it called it, the Kremlin accused the West of waging a proxy war against it.
Daria Dugina, the daughter of a prominent Russian nationalist, was killed in a car bomb explosion in August; military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky, whose real name was Maxim Fomin, was killed in a bomb blast last month; and nationalist writer Zakhar Prilepin was injured in a bomb blast earlier this month.
Russia also accused Ukraine of attacking the Crimean Bridge last October and accused the West of being behind the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions in September.
Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev reportedly told the TASS news agency today that all attacks “they were designed and carried out with the coordination of American special services.”
“The terrorist attacks carried out in Russia were accompanied by an information campaign prepared in advance in Washington and London and designed to destabilize the socio-political situation and undermine the institutional foundations and sovereignty of Russia,” Patrushev said according to with TASS.
The US and its allies say they want Ukraine to prevail against Russia. Although they have repeatedly said they do not want a direct military conflict with Russia, Moscow maintains that the West is already fighting against Russia.
The US and Britain have denied Russian claims of involvement in the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines. Ukraine has never claimed responsibility for the Crimean Bridge attack.
As a former Soviet agent who knew Putin since the 1970s, Patrushev – who has accused the “Anglo-Saxons” of sabotaging Nord Stream, calling it a terrorist attack – is considered by diplomats to be one of Putin’s most influential people. Patrushev’s views and decisions provide insight into the thinking of senior Kremlin officials, according to Western diplomats.
