Supporters of the Extinction Rebellion movement entered the UK House of Commons and posed around the president’s chair, the group said on Twitter on Friday.
They posted a photo of five people inside the venue holding banners reading “Let the people decide” and “Citizens’ Assembly Now”.
The group also hung a large banner with the same words on the outside of the building.
The House of Commons said it was dealing with an “incident”. Certain areas of the parliamentary precinct are open to the public, although access to the debate room is generally restricted to guided tours.
Parliament is not currently in session.
Extinction Rebellion, a group that has caused days of traffic chaos in central London, regularly protests climate change issues.
They said protesters were reading a speech that included the words: “We are in crisis. We can’t go on like this.”
