Project CARS 2 removed from sale – the developer has run out of car licenses

Most gamers have long been accustomed to the fact that even fairly old video games can be purchased on digital platforms, especially if they are tailored for a single passage – it costs nothing for a publisher to keep a lot on sale, even if it is a small profit. However, a very unique story happened to the developers of Slightly Mad Studios – about a month ago there was news that Project CARS 2, one of the best racing simulators on the market, would soon be withdrawn from sale on Steam (you can’t buy the game anywhere else on a PC). And although gamers reacted to the news with disbelief, this is exactly what happened – as of today, the game has been withdrawn from sale.

It is worth recalling that Project CARS 2 was released relatively recently – at the end of 2017. Yes, the developer already has a third licensed part, but the audience met it rather negatively, while it is the second part of the series that is considered almost the best on the racing simulator market. The reason for withdrawing the game from sale is rather banal – Slightly Mad Studios has run out of licenses for both cars and racing tracks. Yes, the developers of racing simulators have to buy licenses for each individual car or for the entire brand line – otherwise the situation would be like GTA 5 with fictional brands of vehicles.

Of course, the developer could renew the license for these cars and race tracks, but apparently the sales of the game are not going well enough for the team to spend their resources on this. Even at its release, this racing simulator looked like a niche product for enthusiasts, which clearly lost out to Need For Speed in terms of sales, and even more so five years later. At the same time, of course, those users who have already bought this video game will be able to download it from their Steam library, go through all the races and use all the functions of the project. Problems are only for those who planned to buy the game after September 22 – now there is simply no such opportunity.
