Surprise: It is Prince William – and no longer his wife Kate Middleton – who is England’s most beloved royal. This is revealed by a new survey conducted by the authoritative YouGov on a sample of 2025 Britons. William in fact comes in first place with the 75 percent of preferences while his wife follows him in second place, albeit with a minimal difference: just one point. In what the British press has already dubbed the “Wales war”, the future king still wins. A surprising result considering that only last April, according to a previous poll YouGovat the top of the list of the most loved royals was Kate herself. After having announced in video to have a cancerhad seen its popularity soar to 76 percent. About six percentage points more than the previous survey at the beginning of the year. A figure that demonstrated how the British had empathized with the future queen consort battling illness.
The last few months have instead decreed William’s comeback. Much more present on the public scene, obviously, than his wife. Since last March when she announced that she had cancer, the princess has appeared in public only three times: in mid-June we had seen her at Trooping The Colourin mid-July at the Wimbledon final, at the end of August while going to mass at Balmoral with the rest of the royal family. Despite being away from the spotlight, and completely focused on her recovery, Kate was beaten by William in the new ranking of the most loved royals by just one point. And compared to the previous ranking in April, she lost just one point. Stable instead King Charles (also engaged in a fight against cancer) and the Queen Camillawho must respectively settle, as last April, for 63 and 49 percent of the preferences. Beating the sovereigns, in addition to William and Kate, is Princess Annawhich remains stable in third place with 71 percent of the preferences. After all, it is she, the royal, who works the most, and confirmation of her dedication to the Crown is also the fact that – after theaccident with his horses which had landed her in hospital last June – she quickly returned to her royal duties.
In the new survey YouGovthen, the British confirmed their antipathy towards Harry And Meghan Markle: the two 60 and 57 percent of British people dislike them, respectively. Clearly, however, the advantage of the “rebel” couple over the increasingly unpopular “prince of scandals” Andrew of York: the brother of King Charles III 87 percent of those interviewed don’t like it.
