Prince Harry is returning home or perhaps it would be better to say “he may return”. As reported by the English newspaper The Timesthe Duke of Sussex would be willing to take on a temporary royal role while his father, King Charles, is undergoing treatment for cancer.
Harry is said to have told friends this after he and his father had several “intimate exchanges” following the King's diagnosis.
Harry, who has stepped down as a working member of the royal family together with his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, in 2020, he is a State Councilor and this role does not require him to take on any of the King's duties, not even in the event of illness. But according to what the newspaper reported, the royal source also revealed that Carlo, who is now 75 years old, he wishes to reconcile with his younger son and believes that doing so would also be beneficial to the monarchy.
The source told the Times: «On every level it makes perfect sense for the family to come together to support the King while he is ill. Much has been said on both sides in recent years, but this has never diminished the bond and now there are pragmatic aspects to consider, and the health of the King and Kate are of primary importance. Details of the meeting at Clarence House (where the meeting between father and son took place last week) and subsequent conversations are private, but the feeling is that this agreement could work.”
A written plan would have to be drawn up by the King and his aides before Harry could return to any official duties and in any case – the newspaper said – he would not receive public funds.
Prince Harry returns home to help ailing King Charles
This news came out after Harry said that the King's illness could lead to a reconciliation with his father in an interview with the American program, Good morning America. The prince said he loved his family and was happy and grateful to return to the UK last week to see his father. A visit that actually lasted very little: 45 minutes, but which immediately caused rumors of a possible reconciliation to circulate.
In the interview, when Prince Harry was asked if the disease could have a “reunifying effect”, Harry replied: “Yes, I'm sure.”
Buckingham Palace has not provided details about Charles' cancer Harry refused to divulge information when asked about the King's health, saying “this remains between me and him”. On the other hand, he said that he will visit his father in the future: “I have other trips planned to the UK or passing through, so I will visit my family whenever possible.”
There was, however, no no meeting between the duke and his brother, Prince Williamafter Harry visited his father Charles at Clarence House.
